ENTR`LIGNE is an animated film that experimentally uses both analogue and digital techniques and interprets the approach of gestural drawing in a contemporary way. In ENTR`LIGNE, two systems communicate: the sound level forms a notated composition, while the visual level is an animated, abstract, gestural, improvised drawing.

The starting point for the film is the composition ‘INEINANDERLINIEN’ (Intertwined Lines). by Gerald Resch, a piece for four bassoons. Based on this matrix, the film develops an image structure that follows the musical grid on the one hand, while on the other hand developing a creative freedom through deconstructive implementation steps. Different visual levels interact with each other: a multi-layered background and four graphic ‘actors’ who take on the roles of the bassoons.

The artistic strategies can also stand for social rules, systematised communication – for planned, goal-oriented action and unintentional, improvisational processes. At the same time, the question is raised as to how visual concepts of the 1980s and 1990s can be rethought.
